The Mabee Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma is an 11,300 seat arena on the Oral Roberts University campus. In October 2015, the University and the Mabee Center put together a 5k race with Tatur Racing called the Ultimate 5k Arena Challenge. The race would begin outside of the arena and then end on the arena floor after circling around the campus.
Internal Tasks and Management: I was placed in charge of registration for this event, which was a huge process as it was not only open to the public, but students were offered this opportunity at a discounted rate for extra credit in their required PE course. On top of the 5k race, there would be a 1 Mile Family Fun Walk open to the public as well where kids, strollers and even pets could participate at their own pace on a separate course.
Each runner’s bib had a chip that would track their time as soon as they cross certain thresholds and markers throughout the race. This was an added bonus that attracted avid runners all over the Tulsa area to participate in the race as well.
I was in charge of student workers, volunteers, supplies, signage, assigning bib numbers and chip ID numbers to the correct runner, fees, applications, etc.
